Beijing Dangdai Art Fair 2026

Yiwei Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in the Public Art Sector · Beijing Dangdai Art Fair 2026, May 21–24, featuring artist Yang Ming's installation painting No One Has Ever Been to West Lake.

No One Has Ever Reached West Lake consists of a group of sculptural image-forms situated between abstraction and figuration. Resembling cut-out contours, they evoke bodies while simultaneously approaching landscape and image, assembled in space as an anonymous collective. Embedded in the ground is a wooden form derived from the outline of West Lake. As a repeatedly viewed and reproduced scenic symbol, “West Lake” is here abstracted into a flattened spatial afterimage—recognizable yet inaccessible.

The work situates its figures in a condition of persistent dislocation: bodies are present, yet perpetually remain short of arrival. Individuals move between urban space and systemic structures while being translated into images and labels—recognizable but unable to dwell. “Land Trace” thus signifies not only the extension of geographic paths, but also another trajectory within contemporary experience: one in which subjects continually approach where they are, yet never truly arrive, becoming trajectories that are marked, observed, and consumed..
