    C Art Festival

    The inaugural C Art Festival began with a question: what happens when contemporary art leaves the white cube and enters an everyday urban space?

     

    Co-presented by Wuhan Contemporary Art Lab and Yiwei Gallery, the festival took place at Garden Ave in central Wuhan from October 3 to 5, 2024. Its 1,500-square-metre (approximately 16,000-square-foot) multi-level parking garage was transformed into an experimental art space, where 28 parking bays became 28 exhibitions featuring more than 30 artists from around the world.

     

    Exhibitions and installations unfolded alongside theatre performances, live music, dance workshops, wine tastings and artist forums, inviting visitors to move freely between artworks and live events. This first edition established C Art Festival as a platform for emerging artists and created a more direct, open encounter between art, audiences and the city.

  • Experimental Physical Theatre
    Founded by young artists Wang Xiamei（汪夏梅）and Li Huihui（李慧慧）, WLBODY is a Wuhan-based movement collective. Their experimental physical theatre work《安妮》Annie combined movement, dialogue, and environmental performance from the perspective of “Annie,” exploring expressions of femininity, confidence, and courage.     SwingWuhan, a community brought together by a love of jazz, dance, and everyday life, presented a live swing dance performance and workshop at C Art Festival. Bringing a sense of joy and energy to the festival, the workshop invited visitors to join in and drew enthusiastic participation from the crowd. (Larger version of this image opens in a popup).

    From the music label Blue Bubbles, Cool Jazz Lean brought relaxed and lively sounds to C Art Festival, performing across Standard Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Funk, and Bossa Nova. The lineup featured keyboardist Lena, saxophonist Wu Rui（吴睿）, drummer Jia Donghao（贾东壕）, and electric bassist Zhang Haoran（张昊然）.

    Wuhan-based designer Zhou Tianyue（周天越）@EsseriSenzienti House presented a runway show featuring ten couture looks, modeled by a group of ten artists and friends during C Art Festival.

    春山后潮 post Tide brought psychedelic rock to C Art Festival with a live performance featuring band members Tianyu（天宇）, Ranchan, 阿颖, and Yuan Chengxin（袁成鑫）.
