C Art Festival Wuhan 2025: May 1 – 5, 2025

The 2025 C Art Festival opened on May 1 at Garden Ave in Wuhan, bringing together artists, visitors, and the local creative community. The opening marked the beginning of five days of exhibitions, performances, and conversations, transforming the former industrial space into a lively gathering place for art and exchange.

Visitors were invited to personalize C Art Festival tote bags with colorful patches and playful designs. The hands-on activity offered a fun and creative way to participate in the festival and take home a unique souvenir.

Alongside the exhibitions and performances, C Art Festival hosted a series of roundtable discussions bringing together curators, artists, collectors, art educators, and gallery professionals. Topics included the role of a new generation of art professionals, Wuhan’s local art ecosystem, creative communities, and opportunities for emerging artists, creating space for conversation and exchange within the festival.

South Korean filmmaker and photographer Han Dowoo, a graduate of Korea National University of Arts, shared his photographic practice at C Art Festival. Known for his cinematic approach to storytelling, his film photography combines the atmosphere of cinema with still imagery, capturing fleeting moments and exploring the possibilities between the two mediums.

WLBODY — Against the Current
Founded by dancers Wang Xiamei（汪夏梅）and Li Huihui（李慧慧）, WLBODY explores environmental dance and physical theatre through the relationship between body and space. Their new experimental work《反方向的人》Against the Current made its debut at C Art Festival on May 1, 2025.

Tian Yumeng（田羽蒙） studied at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London and trained in screen acting at Shanxia School. At C Art Festival, she led《看见》Seeing, an interactive theatre workshop built around performance exercises, shared experience, and discussion. Participants explored acting through practice, followed by an open conversation about their experience and Tian’s approach to performance.

Over the course of an hour, four dancers moved freely throughout the festival, responding to artworks, architecture, and one another through contact improvisation. Visitors could choose to observe, interrupt, explore, or join in, continuously shifting the relationship between performer, audience, and exhibition space.
