“Heat Map captures personal hot flash data during a 28-day period from September 12ths to October 9th, 2025. Fueled by the estrogen-blocking breast cancer drug Tamoxifen, I have experienced as many as 10 flashes a day; a disruptive, amplified, and unwelcome return of the peri-menopausal symptom. In my daily log, I record the time and duration of each event and assign a subjective intensity score. This data is then transcribed into visual form through cross-stitch, using rules I have established for myself to determine the shape and color of the marks. As the data accumulates, patterns emerge in a schematic mapping of one body’s experience with hot flashes.” – Michelle Robinson, Artist
