“Heatwave Symphony” by Cissy Li
Warm glass, dichroic glass, Bullseye 90 COE art glass, electric kiln at 1460°F
Heatwave Symphony is a celebration and confrontation of the vivid turbulence that defines a woman’s body in transformation. Crafted through the warm-glass process using layers of dichroic and Bullseye 90COE art glass, this piece captures the invisible yet powerful rhythms of hormonal change during menopause — a phase often silenced or misunderstood.
The flowing spectrum of molten colors — from cool violets and oceanic blues to searing oranges and molten reds — mirrors the surges of heat, emotion, and energy that move through the body like solar flares. The plate’s undulating gradients evoke both intensity and renewal, suggesting that within discomfort lies an awakening of strength, identity, and light.
Through the language of color and light, Heatwave Symphony invites reflection on the beauty of female resilience — the inner fire that transforms not only glass, but life itself. – Cissy Li, Artist
