Yiwei  Gallery is pleased to present "A Shot@LOVE," a duo exhibition featuring two emerging artists Vita Kari and Peipei Li. This exhibition showcases a diverse array of their latest works, including works on canvas, tapestries, mixed-media sculptures, installations, and performative art.

"A Shot@LOVE" features artworks that blend introspective philosophy with social commentary. By appropriating daily commodities like hamburgers and lemons, and deconstructing phallic motifs in different cultural contexts, both artists create allegorical narratives exploring the themes of queer identity, diaspora, problematic social norms, sexuality, and Taoist philosophy.

Vita Kari

Vita Kari (b. 1994, Los Angeles) is a non-binary artist renowned for their immersive performance work involving illusion, with millions of followers online. A graduate of the MFA program at Otis College of Art and Design, Kari's art addresses contemporary issues of digital identity and commercialism  via works live and on video, showcasing in Los Angeles, New York City, and Miami.

Kari's solo exhibitions include "Escape to Vitawood" at ULO World, and they have participated in various group exhibitions. Their work has been featured in publications such as Forbes, Artnet, Interview Magazine, Gay Times, and Jezebel. Kari has collaborated with brands like Marc Jacobs, Loewe, Levi's, Warby Parker, PUMA, Savage x Fenty by Rihanna, Bratz, and Adult Swim. Additionally, they have delivered artist talks, including a recent engagement at UCLA.

Peipei Li

Peipei Li (b.1996, Shenyang, China) works as a multimedia artist. She earned her BFA in illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design and her MFA from the California College of the Arts in 2024. Li had her debut solo installation project, "New Order," at Yiwei Gallery in April 2022. Her paintings have been exhibited at the San Francisco Art Fair and Intersect Palm Springs, and collected by the Sasse Museum of Art.

Peipei Li's art explores the interplay between chaos and human emotions, inspired by traditional Chinese Taoist philosophy which highlights how power and truth emerge from life's chaotic fabric. Her portraits purposefully exclude facial features yet effectively convey identities, emphasizing that emotions stem from within rather than outward appearances. In tandem with her paintings, Li's provocative genital-like dolls confront societal taboos surrounding sex education and norms, stimulating dialogues on gender, sexuality, family planning policies, and reproductive rights.
