Lee’s work reflects absurdity, chaos, and solitude, drawing inspiration from her desires, despairs, and the complexities of her life. In her recent “Hellscape” series, she explores body, gender, sexuality, religion, culture, language, and relationships through diverse mediums. From composition to color selection, Kay challenges herself in her creations—she structures the composition strictly and intentionally creates with challenging colors. Digesting her internal conflicts with creative struggles, Lee eventually completes paintings that are emotionally intricate yet overall vibrant and harmonious in color.
Dai Ying, born in 1983 in Sichuan, China, currently resides in New York, Los Angeles, and Beijing.
