Dai Ying 戴莹
No Dust to be Wiped 亦无尘可拂, 2024Performance
30min
No Dust to be Wiped is a performance and installation by Dai Ying, presented by Yiwei Gallery. Following its live presentation on the opening day of Untitled Art Miami Beach (Dec 3, 2024), the installation remains on view at P1 until the fair’s conclusion.
The installation comprises containers and soil contributed by 108 individuals and families from China who left their hometowns in pursuit of work and opportunity. Each container holds deeply personal meaning, reflecting the contributors’ emotions and life experiences. The soil, collected from their birthplaces, symbolizes a reconnection to their roots.
Through her work, Dai Ying transforms soil, water, and cultural symbols into a reinterpretation of Eastern shamanistic rituals, conveyed dynamically through performance art. Her body becomes both a mediator and a portal, channeling the rising energy of Eastern femininity. This performance advocates for world peace, equality, and the dismantling of power hierarchies, promoting harmonious relationships between people and with the world. It opposes war and actions that violate human rights, calling for collective reflection and change.
