Dec 3 - 8 2024 | Untitled Art Miami Beach
Yiwei Gallery is pleased to announce our participation in Untitled Art Miami Beach from Dec 3-8.
With the new theme of “East Meets West” for Untitled Arts 2024 edition, we will present the works of three artists from our gallery program, Kay Seohyung Lee (이서형), Dai Ying (戴莹), and Vita Kari. The featured artworks include oil on canvas, textile art, mixed media on Chinese Xuan paper, and performance art.
Kay Seohyung Lee (이서형)’s new work Tea (2024) explores the feminine inferno she has built up in hellscape, a series of Lee’s works that reflect personal turmoils within the artist’s Asian American experience. With a heavenly tone in the Bacchanalian portrayal, Tea shifts its focus from personal identity to a commentary on capitalism, where individual identity converges to a collective experience.
Drawing inspiration from traditional Asian perspectivalism—a graphic technique that invites personal narratives to emerge from any part of the painting—Lee integrates contemporary cultural symbols, from pearls and ribbons to references like Katy Perry’s California Gurls music video. This approach highlights the fluid and interconnected nature of material culture and society.

Dai Ying (戴莹)'s M-Theory series, which she has been developing since 2014, revolves around the symbolic form of the circle. This motif embodies the artist's spiritual exploration of hope, integrating concepts of energy vibrations and the origins of life. The series reflects Dai's deeply personal connection to these themes, merging her creative vision with her inner spirit.
"Emptiness" and "existence" are interconnected in Dai’s pieces, and color itself becomes an extension of consciousness. The translucent quality of xuan paper enhances the luminosity of her colors, opening up infinite creative possibilities. Each painting requires 4-6 months devoted to its completion, along with a state of deep meditation.

Los Angeles-based artist Vita Kari presents their textile work My Girlfriend Named Herself After a Water Bottle (2024) explores the adornment of the human body— “something I specifically admire and took away from my time in the fashion space this past year,” said the artist.
Drawing inspiration from New York Fashion Week, the artist glamorizes the senses through their imagery, a deeply personal expression while facing the challenges of losing their hearing. Digitally enhanced, Kari’s hanging carpet pieces carry sculptural qualities, imbued with the homages to feminine traditions as an immigrant.
