Group Exhibition of Lynn Hanson, Catherine Ruane, and Elizabeth Orleans
In celebration of Yiwei Gallery’s one year anniversary on Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice Beach, we are pleased to invite Venice artist Corinne Chaix to curate Wanderland. This exhibition honors our community by featuring the works of local artists Lynn Hanson, Catherine Ruane, and Elizabeth Orleans. Wanderland is a tribute to Nature, Dream, and Resilience by three women artists and a choreographer in a life which is ever-changing.
Exhibition Duration: September 25 - November 19, 2022
Artist Reception: Sunday, September 25, 2-6 pm
Lynn Hanson’s work stems from rapt attention and visceral connection to the natural world, spanning three decades of call and response from her daily wanderings along the Pacific and in the canyons. Her work in this exhibition includes oil paintings on translucent draft film of the gray sea, wrack and bramble.
Catherine Ruane is also prone to wander. Her charcoal and graphite “Witness trees”, bushes, and flowers tell their stories of past and present. They all live in a dedicated place and observe the chaos of human life. In some instances, they get co-opted into the drama, but the persistence of these living plants is a potent metaphor for not only survival but also the ability to thrive.
Ruane is an artist based in Southern California. Ruane earned her BA from San Diego State University and her MFA from Otis College of Art and Design. Catherine’s work has been exhibited internationally and included in museum shows, such as the Oceanside Museum of Art, CA, the Museum of Art and History in Lancaster, CA, the San Luis Obispo Art Museum, CA, the Redlands Museum, CA, the Riverside Museum, CA, and the University of Arizona Art Museum in Tucson, AZ.
Elizabeth N. Orleans’s soft ceramic, dreamy boats cradle hearts filled with magic and yearning, manifesting intentions. The hearts are like musical body parts you want to caress and listen to. Defying gravity, they float on a path of an infinite voyage in time.
Orleans earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA and a MFA degree at California College of the Arts in Oakland.
