Evan Maurer
Artist Evan Maurer lives and works in Santa Monica, CA.
Before moving to the West coast, Maurer was the Director of The Minneapolis Institute of Arts for sixteen years and has been named Director Emeritus of the MIA in recognition of his unique impact on the institution and the community where he made the museum free beginning 1989.
Maurer also was a Curator at the Art Institute of Chicago, an Art Historian and a writer specialized in 20th century European and American art, Surrealism, Native American Art and African Art.
Maurer holds a PhD in History of Art from the University of Pennsylvania and has many awards including 3 other honorary PHD and a chevalier of the order of Arts and letter given by the République of France.Maurer’s visual imagery is informed by his extensive studies in surrealism and tribal cultures, where art is presented on multiple level of identity.
His artistic and scholar works are all piled together, exploring the same directions, the same the areas of meaning.Polymorphic, polythematic, everything in our world is interconnected by spiritual energies. Evan Maurer’s native American mentors and friends have opened his mind and heart to this. Aho!
